One thing I did not anticipate was the medicine skill to be as broad as it is in that regard. The best part is obviously the writing and the idea behind weaving all of the different character progression skills into dialogue options instead of just stratifying that whole element into the standard speech/intelligence route. This really puts a big damper on the overarching experience when I frequently have to force quit and restart the game. Apparently this is an issue even on the console versions from my googling about it, and there's really no catch all solution to it.
The odds of it happening feel equivalent to Russian roulette which seems apt given the roulette animation on the screen. I followed a guide to configure it as well as install a number of bug fixing and stability related mods, and while ingame it's for the most part pretty stable without any crashes, it's the infinite loading screen problem that still vexes me. Now, I consider myself pretty seasoned with handling the technicalities of the TES games and modding them, but NV feels like it's on a whole other level and by far the most unstable (probably F3 too in that case) iteration of their engine.
Just trying to get New Vegas up and running in an acceptable state on modern PCs was a whole ordeal in itself. Just more out of sheer indifference than anything else. My prior history with Fallout was that I played the hell out of the first two games, being my first real foray into CRPGs, and while I did not have any pre-conceived notions against Bethesda while Fallout 3 was under development (unlike so many other classic Fallout fans at the time), I played through Fallout 3 once on release, decided I was not that enthused with what they were doing and just abandoned the franchise after that. I had played it for a few hours in 2015 but quit due to overwhelming technical issues hindering playability. Spurred by the recent hbomberguy video I decided to give this game another shot and really try to sink my teeth into it over the holidays.
